GENERAL MATHEMATICS - This course is designed to help students develop number sense, computational skills, and ability to apply their knowledge to problem-solving situations. Each lesson provides an example of what is to be learned and involves developing an understanding of the basic math concepts resulting in a mastering of those same skills. Prerequisite: Results of the Palma admissions examination and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

PRE-ALGEBRA - Pre-Algebra covers the following items: integers, positive and negative numbers, factors and multiplying fractions, equations, inequalities The emphasis in the course is on a gradual thorough preparation for first year algebra. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the General Mathematics course or results of the Palma admissions examination and recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

ALGEBRA I - Algebra I reviews numbers and sets and proceeds through systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, algebraic fractions, and the application of axioms, concepts, and methods to the solution of numerical problems. Students are introduced to systems of equations in two variables, functions, and graphs. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Pre-Algebra course or results of the Palma admissions examination and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

ALGEBRA I HONORS - Algebra I reviews numbers and sets and proceeds through systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, algebraic fractions, and the application of axioms, concepts and methods to the solution of numerical problems. Students are introduced to systems of equations in two variables, functions and graphs, solutions of quadratic equations and the simplification of square root radicals. An introduction to the system of irrational numbers is included. Prerequisite: minimun "B" average in Pre-Algebra I or results of the Palma admissions examination and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

GEOMETRY - This geometry course introduces the student to geometrical terms, theorems, logic and formal proofs. Parallel lines, congruent triangles, properties of quadrilaterals, circles, and polygons are discussed in detail along with periodic reviews of algebra. It strives to develop the individual's ability to observe, analyze, and reason in a logical manner and to understand and apply the concept of proof based on postulates. Practical uses of geometrical concepts, such as navigation, basic astronomy, and architecture are explored. Prerequisite: Algebra I (10 credits).

Parallel lines, congruent triangles, properties of quadrilaterals, circles, and polygons are discussed in detail along with periodic reviews of algebra. It strives to develop the individual's ability to observe, analyze, and reason in a logical manner and to understand and apply the concept of proof based on postulates. This course also introduces the student to vector algebra and trigonometry. Prerequisite: A minimum "B" average in Algebra I Honors or an "A" average in Algebra I and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

There is no sequential course that follows this. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I and recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

The new concepts covered are irrational and complex numbers, rational exponents, and logarithms. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I and geometry and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

ALGEBRA II/TRIGONOMETRY - This course is designed to review the major concepts of Algebra I. Open sentences in one variable, systems of linear equations, factors and operations with polynomials are emphasized. The new topics introduced are irrational and complex numbers, quadratic equations and systems, rational exponents, and logarithms. Polynomial, trigonometric, and circular functions will be discussed in detail. Prerequisite: Minimum "C" average in math; completion of both Algebra I and geometry; and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

ALGEBRA II/TRIGONOMETRY HONORS - This course is designed to review the major concepts of Algebra I. Open sentences in one variable, systems of linear equations, factors and operations with polynomials are emphasized. The new topics covered are irrational and complex numbers, quadratic equations and systems, rational exponents, logarithms, arithmetic and geometric progressions and series. Polynomial, trigonometric and circular functions are highlighted. Prerequisite: minimum "B" average in both Algebra I Honors and Geometry Honors or an "A" average in both Algebra I and geometry and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits)

STATISTICS AP - This course is designed to prepare students for the advanced placement statistics exam. The course will use modern data-analysis techniques to explore and display data. The course will utilize technology (TI-83 calculator and software) and real-life data (historical case studies and research). Topics covered will include, but not limited to: data modeling and display, descriptive statistics for multiple sample data, combinations, permutations, probability, random variables, sample distributions, sample problems, regression and correlation of data, integration of calculator and software and statistical applications. Prerequisite: completion of Algebra II and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

PRE-CALCULUS - This course is designed to review and enrich many topics covered in Algebra II and trigonometry, such as the theory of sets, the axioms of a field, sequences and series, the conic sections, binomial expansion, complex numbers, mathematical induction and vectors. The use of the polynomial, the circular, the trigonometric and the logarithmic functions is expanded. The student is introduced to the various techniques for graphing multi-degree polynomials by the use of synthetic division and derivatives. The class prepares the student for college calculus by giving him a solid beginning basis in the fundamental concepts of limits, differentiation and integration. Prerequisite: Minimum "B" average in Algebra II/Trigonometry and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

PRE-CALCULUS HONORS - This course is designed to review and enrich many topics covered in Algebra II and trigonometry as well as prepare the student for a first course in calculus. These review topics include; linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions and their graphs, analytic geometry, set theory, and complex numbers. Preparation for calculus will include exploration into discrete mathematics including vectors, polar coordinates, determinates, matrices and sequence and series. The fundamental basis for calculus will be achieved by covering in depth the beginning basics dealing with the concepts of limits, differentiation and integration. Every topic covered will be explored through real world applications and examples. Prerequisite: A minimum "B" average in Algebra II/ Trigonometry Honors or an "A" average in Algebra II/Trigonometry and the recommendation of current math teacher (10 credits).

AB Level

This course is designed to meet the requirements for the Calculus AB Advanced Placement examination. The three primary operations of limits, differentiation and integration are applied to polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, and rational functions. The derivative is used to study rates of change and related rates: while the definite integral is used to investigate surface areas, and volumes of geometric solids.

BC Level

This course is designed to meet the requirements for the Calculus BC Advanced Placement examination.
