Welcome to my web site. I have been a teacher here at Palma for twenty years. During that time I have taught all grade levels. This year I am teaching the following courses:
1. AP World Literature - a class for highly motivated seniors who are capable of working independently with the purpose of enjoying literature from various countries and time periods. This class prepares them for college level seminar classes as well as enhancing their analytical and writing skills. All students who take this class take the Advanced Placement Literature Examination in May.
2. Junior Honors English - a class for junior students who read, write, and think on an advanced level. Work will be done to prepare these students for the PSATs, the SATs, and the Advanced Placement Tests. Time will be spent on developing their critical thinking and writing skills. It is hoped that through increasing their abilities to read and analyze both prose and poetry, their enjoyment of literature will grow. In May after the Advanced Placement Language Examination, the students will complete a unit on writing personal essays which will give them at least two essays each which they can use with their college applications at the beginning of their senior year.
3. Junior English - a college preparatory class which helps students expand their knowledge of literature, their
vocabularies, their grammar skills, and their critical thinking and
writing skills as they prepare for college. As they grow in
their understanding of literature and language, it is hoped that they
will increase their love of literature. They will do work to
prepare for the PSAT and the written portion of the SAT. In May,
those who desire to will be given the opportunity to study the personal
essay and to write essays which they will be able to use when applying
to colleges.
